CLEMSON UNIVERSTIY AND PALMETTOPRIDE PARTNER FOR A CLEANER FOOTBALL SEASON
The University Receives Grant to Expand Their Stadium Recycling Program Columbia, SC – PalmettoPride, the state anti-litter and beautification organization, continues its partnership with Clemson University by expanding their stadium recycling program. This is the latest effort in a partnership that started two years ago with the highly successful Solid Green campaign, the first campus-wide anti-litter program in South Carolina. Clemson has recycled at the stadium in the past, but through the partnership with PalmettoPride, they will double the number of recycling bins placed around the stadium on game days. “We want to encourage fans at the games to recycled as much as possible, and the best way to do that is to make it easier for them,” said Jeff Leyh, co-president of SEA. PalmettoPride coordinates a Collegiate Recycling Grant to assist colleges and universities start up recycling programs at their stadiums. For the grant, PalmettoPride pays for recycling bins, t-shirts and other incidentals. The University is responsible for coordinating the logistics of recycling, including collection and removal of recyclable materials. “The Solid Green program was embraced by the students and helped to put us in the spotlight on campus,” said Rick Cothran, Director of Operations for PalmettoPride. “To be able to keep working with the University on recycling efforts gives us a wider audience to educate on the importance of litter reduction.” Clemson University is the latest school to receive the Collegiate Recycling Grant from PalmettoPride. The University of South Carolina and SC State University are already on board. Three other schools are in talks to start up programs at their stadiums.
