EDUCATION EVENT FOR PICKENS COUNTY PRIDE WEEK

PalmettoPride Hosts Education Day at Recycling and Education Center

WHO          Pickens County Beautification & Environmental Advisory

                   Committee and PalmettoPride

WHAT:          Join PalmettoPride at the Pickens County Environmental Recycling and Education Center Tuesday as we pass out litter law brochures to visitors.  We will also join Pickens County Environmental Services as they pass out tarps.  The tarp campaign educates drivers bringing in trash on the importance of properly securing their loads.  Tarps are an essential tool for trucks in that they completely cover a truck bed.  In accordance with SC litter laws, it is illegal to haul items that are not secured.

Pickens County has partnered with PalmettoPride to plan and promote a weeklong countywide cleanup event.  Volunteers are encouraged to plan or participate in community cleanups.  The mission of Pride Week is to encourage citizens to get involved in cleanups and beautification projects, to increase volunteer participation in on-going cleanup efforts and to educate people on the effects of litter.

WHEN:           Tuesday, October 23, 2007 from 10:00am – 12:00pm

WHERE:            Pickens County Environmental Recycling and Education Center

2041 Old Liberty Road, Liberty, SC

IN ADDITION:   Several challenges have been laid out for municipalities,   community and neighborhood groups, schools and youth groups to provide beautification grant money for     cleanup efforts. Trash bags, safety vests and work gloves will be provided for all volunteers.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:    For more information on how to participate,

please contact Jennifer Fisher at 877-725-7733
