KEEP SOUTH CAROLINA BEAUTIFUL PRESENTS THREE OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AWARDS

Columbia, SC – Keep South Carolina Beautiful presented three Outstanding Performance Awards and seven Affiliate Recognition Awards last week at the annual conference held in North Myrtle Beach.

Two community leaders received Performance Awards for their efforts to create and protect a cleaner environment and improve the beauty of a neighborhood or public space.  Ida Tipton of EdistoPride/Keep Edisto Beautiful received the Outstanding Performance Award for a Volunteer.  Tipton serves as secretary of the EdistoPride.  She is an employee of the Edisto Island Land Trust.  Her community outreach efforts span over many organizations in the area, including Edisto Island Historical Preservation Society and Museum, FRESPACE (Friends of the Edisto State Park and ACE Basin) and DNR's Turtle Patrol.

Lisa Hamilton received the Outstanding Performance Award for Board Member.  Hamilton serves as Chairperson for Keep Dorchester County Beautiful (KDCB).  She has been instrumental in KDCB programs such as beautification projects at Palmetto House and serves as the director for Recycling Trooper program in three elementary schools.

The Outstanding Performance Award for a Program recognizes a program that creates a cleaner community or enhances the beauty of a community.   Keep Jasper Beautiful received this award for their Litter Trashes Everyone event.  This event provides litter and recycling education to all 1st and 2nd graders in Jasper County schools.  Each April, the program has brought PalmettoPride's Litter Trashes Everyone marionette show to an Earth Day event.  Following the event, teachers and students participate in a clean up of their schools and communities.

Seven local KAB affiliates received Gold Level KSCB Affiliate Recognition Awards for efforts deliver a cleaner community through new technologies, improved waste handling and public space stewardship.  Those affiliates are as follows: Keep Oconee Beautiful Association, Keep Jasper Beautiful, Keep Williamsburg Beautiful, Keep Dorchester County Beautiful, Rock Hill Clean & Green, Keep Charleston Beautiful and EdistoPride.

KSCB hosted the awards dinner during their annual conference.  The conference brings together local affiliates to network and training. The conference was held at the Avista Resort in North Myrtle Beach February 20 – 21, 2008.

Keep South Carolina Beautiful is the state KAB affiliate.  KSCB coordinates training and communication with the local KAB affiliates.  KSCB is a program of PalmettoPride, the state's anti-litter and beautification organization.
