BERKELEY COUNTY PRIDE WEEK ONE WEEK AWAY
Cleanups and Special Events Are Set for Volunteers Columbia, SC – Plans for special events and community cleanups are underway in Berkeley County Pride Week. Organizers are distributing supplies to volunteers and are gearing up for the kickoff this Friday, May 2 with a 96.9 WIWF Radio Remote from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at Lowe's located at 605 St. James Blvd. in Goose Creek. The cleanups begin on Saturday, May 3 and will be held all over the county. Events planned so far include the annual county-wide spring cleanup event, Adopt-A-Highway Events and a Francis Marion National Forest cleanup. There is still time to sign up your family, school or group for a cleanup! Citizens are encouraged to participate in a program geared towards community improvement and healthy neighborhoods. Berkeley County Water and Sanitation and PalmettoPride, partners in this weeklong cleanup event, have worked closely with county leaders and municipal representatives to promote a well-rounded event that focuses on litter eradication and beautification. “Litter pick up events are a great way to promote pride in our county and foster a better quality of life,” said Jackie Tillman, Recycling and Adopt-A-Highway Coordinator for Berkeley County. “We are excited about the challenges PalmettoPride has set for our towns and communities and are hoping that they will spur on some new volunteer groups.” Berkeley County Pride Week will take place May 3 – 10, 2008, and is sponsored by Berkeley County and PalmettoPride. Pride Week aims to encourage volunteer participation throughout the county, involving not only government groups to clean up trash, but neighborhoods, schools and community groups. To participate in Berkeley County Pride Week, please contact Jennifer Fisher with PalmettoPride at 803-758-6034 or log onto www.palmettopride.org. Pride Week, a PalmettoPride program, is a week-long cleanup event that has occurred in nine other counties. PalmettoPride aims to host a Pride Week in every county. To date, Pride Week has brought together 26,745 participants and removed over 390 tons pounds of trash from South Carolina communities. # # #
