PALMETTOPRIDE ANNOUNCES KSCB AND TREE GRANT RECIPIENTS

The 2009 PalmettoPride Grant Cycle Reaches Halfway Mark

Columbia, SC – PalmettoPride has awarded two of five grants in their PalmettoPride Grants program: the KSCB Grant and the Tree Grant.  The state anti-litter organization awarded grants to 17 local keep America Beautiful affiliates and 1,447 trees to 20 organizations.  The Challenge for the Environment Grant, Enforcement Grant and Community Pride Grant applications are still available for download on www.palmettopride.org.  A list of grant winners follows this announcement.

The KSCB Grant funds local Keep America Beautiful (KAB) organizations with funds to start up litter eradication, waste reduction and beautification programs in their communities.  These three program areas are the focus of the national organization's mission.  PalmettoPride is the parent organization to Keep South Carolina Beautiful, the state affiliate for KAB, Inc.  This year, 17 local affiliates received $126,031 in grant funds.

The Tree Grant provides trees to community improvement organizations, municipalities, schools and other local governments for beautification projects in public spaces.  This grant is possible with the help of SC Department of Corrections.  PalmettoPride purchases seedlings based on the SC Forestry Commission's native plant guide.  SCDC's horticulture department and volunteer inmates grow the seedlings into trees that can be transferred and planted in communities throughout the state.   This year, 1,447 trees went to 20 groups.

The PalmettoPride Grant program funds anti-litter and beautification projects across the state.  Grant funds can only be spent for public programs and public spaces.  Each grant winner must participate in the Great American Cleanup of South Carolina.
