GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP OF SC TO KICK OFF IN NORTH MYRTLE BEACH Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful to Host First Cleanup What: Keep South Carolina Beautiful will kick off the 2009 Great American Cleanup of South Carolina with a cleanup hosted by Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful. A live radio remote with Gator 107.9 will entertain volunteers from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on-site. When: Saturday, February 28, 2009 Cleanup begins 9:00 a.m. 5K Fitness Walk begins 9:00 a.m. Radio remote 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Where: Russell Burgess Preserve Park located at Duffy Street & 36th Avenue North in Cherry Grove Who: Keep SC Beautiful, Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful, volunteers How: To volunteer for this cleanup or participate in the GAC 5K Fitness Walk please contact Gregg Barnhill with Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful at 843-280- 5673. Other: The Great American Cleanup is sponsored annually by Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB). It is the nation's largest cleanup event. Every year, thousands of communities take part in cleanup and beautification activities around the country. In SC, over 28,000 people removed over 4 million pounds of trash and recyclables from our roads, neighborhoods, parks and waterways. South Carolina has 24 KAB affiliates. Keep North Myrtle Beach received the President's Circle Recognition Award for Excellence at the 2008 KAB National Conference. PalmettoPride is the state's anti-litter and beautification organization. It is the parent organization to KSCB. Its mission is to eradicate litter and promote beautification in SC using a four-pronged approach: education, enforcement, awareness and pickup. # # #
