FREE TREES FOR BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS AVAILABLE
PalmettoPride Announces the 2010 Fall Tree Grant WHAT: PalmettoPride announces its 2010 Fall Tree Grant. The grant provides a variety of types of trees for beautification projects in public spaces. The application is available for download on their homepage at www.palmettopride.org. WHO: Any municipality, county government group, state government agency, community improvement organization, schools, churches or other group planning or participating in a beautification project on a public spaces is eligible to apply for the grant. The grant is only available for South Carolina projects. WHEN: The grant is available on Monday, August 3, 2009. The completed application will be due on September 14, 2009. HOW: To apply for the grant, you need to have a plan in place for planting and maintaining the trees. Applicants may select trees from the list of available trees and designate the amounts needed per tree. Trees will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis as long as the application is approved. OTHER: The PalmettoPride Tree Grant is coordinated annually in cooperation with the SC Department of Corrections. Trees are grown from seedlings by inmates who in horticulture centers on prison grounds across the state. Once trees mature into a 5-gallon container, they are available free to any group planning a beatification project on public property. On average, 2,500 trees are granted out annually.
