KEEP COLLETON BEAUTIFUL BECOMES 22TH CERTIFIED AFFILIATE

Keep America Beautiful, Inc. Presents New Organization with a Certification of Completion

Columbia, SC – Keep South Carolina Beautiful (KSCB) is pleased to announce the newest member of the KSCB affiliate network, Keep Colleton Beautiful.  Keep Colleton Beautiful has completed the requirements for affiliation of the national organization Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB).

Affiliating with KAB has many benefits, including turn-key programs, resources, name recognition, awards and accountability reports.  KAB also holds two training and networking conferences a year.  KAB has over 550 affiliates in the nation.

Colleton County is beautiful and unique county that is in the middle of an area that will soon see lots of development,” says David Smalls, Director of Walterboro-Colleton Chamber of Commerce and the new affiliate.  “KAB was the best fit for us to clean up our county and promote beautification, and as we see new residents and businesses come into the county, make sure that new developments stay within the traditions of the area.”

To become certified as a KAB affiliate, a team leader creates a certification team responsible for creating a logo, bi-laws and creating a board of directors.  The team is also responsible for completing a Litter Index and a Focus Area Survey.  The certification training is facilitated by a KAB national trainer and Sarah Robinson, director of Keep South Carolina Beautiful.

Colleton received an affiliate start-up grant from KSCB, which helps the organization pay for the certification training and provides money for first-year program development. KSCB is a program of PalmettoPride, the state's anti-litter organization.  KSCB is the state affiliate and sits on the State Leaders Council for the national organization.

“KAB has so many networking opportunities and great programs that have proven successful in thousands of communities.  We feel that the annual reports give the organizations a lot of accountability,” said Robinson.

Colleton is the latest county to affiliate with the growing SC network.  In six years, the number of affiliates has jumped from 16 to 22, with three more are in the pre-certification process.  SC affiliates have received over 40 awards in the past three years.  For more information on KSCB, please contact Sarah Robinson at (803) 758-6034.
